What is qEEG Brain Mapping?

Brain map pinpoints which brainwaves are abnormal and which location of the brain. Our neuropsychological staff develop individualized neurofeedback protocols for each patient. QEEG (Quantitative Electroencephalogram) or Brain Mapping is an essential diagnostic procedure used in evaluating ADD/ADHD, Autism, Learning Disorders, Anxiety, Depression and other emotional regulation behaviors. It tells us if the symptoms are neurologically based. If neurologically caused, then there is a high probability of treatment success using Neurofeedback and Biofeedback treatment programs.

There are 19 sensors placed on the surface of the head showing neurotransmitter brain wave activity on the screen. The Brain map records the electrical activity of the brain; Brian wave movement and funtionality.

The Brain Mapping will detect if any area of the brain is malfunctioning or misfiring. The patient’s Brain map is processed and compared to a “normative database” that was developed through funding from NIH. The normative database we use is FDA approved and is the best in the world. It shows how the patient’s brain should be functioning at that age. If there has been brain damage, we will take a SPECT-scan photo imaging to literally see the brain conditions.

With the assistance of our neuropsychology staff, we know what cognitive or emotional functions each area performs. If one or more of the locations shows reduced activity (either from too many slow brain waves or not enough fast brain waves), then we can identify what type of symptoms the patient may be experiencing as a result of that area malfunctioning. This is effectively used when brain injury is known or when learning and memory functions seem to be abnormal. For example, if the frontal region of the brain shows excessive slow brainwaves and the patient has attentional difficulties, then we have a “match” to help him/her with Neurofeedback to train the frontal lobe to regulate more normally.

qEEG used to diagnose children with ADHD/ADD

Without a Brain Mapping, a clinician cannot truly know if the symptoms are neurologically based, or simply psychological/behavioral. We develop a qEEG protocol as part of the Crosby Center treatment for each patient.
We achieve successful outcome because we utilize the latest technology and treatments for recovery.
