INCIDENT: In many cases, when the Amygdale becomes over active as a result of an early incident {fear-injury} setting up a hyper vigilance, i.e., anxiety, panic attacks, mood disorders evolve. The individual often starts self-medicating for relief.
The drug and alcohol self-medicating in turn sets-up brain chemical imbalances (serotonin-dopamine) and the cravings, i.e., controlling your drug or alcohol abuse and then a dependency.
TREATMENT: Gentle persistence, and technical procedures with integrated therapy can aid in bring out the trauma, moving the thought to the PF-cortex where logic and reasoning will apply and normalize, calming the amygdala's over activity from fear.
Cognitive behavioral therapy (also know by it abbreviation, CBT) is a treatment that takes a hand-on practical approach to problem-solving. Its goal is to change patterns of thinking or behavior that are underlying individual's difficulties, and so change the way they feel.
It is used to treat a wide range of issues from sleeping difficulties or relationship problems, to drug and alcohol abuse or anxiety and depression. CBT works by changing an individual's attitude and their behavior by focusing on the thoughts, images, beliefs and attitudes that we hold (our cognitive process) and how this relates to the way we behave, as a way of dealing with emotional problems.
Individuals are then provided neuro and biofeedback treatments which measure the effectiveness of the sessions and patient's progress towards resolving their issue. This is also very effective in PTSD and personality disorder treatments.
RESULT: Minimizing the defensiveness (fight-flight) reactive behavior, anxiety, panic attacks, and stress. Stability reduces the anxiety, impulsivity and addictive cravings.
